Monica L. Hilton, Dipl. O.M., L.Ac., a native of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, is a Licensed Acupuncturist and Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner. Her interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine began several years ago with a suggestion from a friend to try acupuncture as an alternative treatment for migraine headaches. She decided to conduct a search online to learn more about it and was immediately drawn to its theory. She was motivated by the way Traditional Chinese Medicine worked to heal the mind and body as one entity and how it focused on addressing the root of an illness. She started to analyze her own health and think about how so many people could benefit from this kind of healthcare. At that moment she knew she wanted to study this medicine and immediately started looking for a school to attend.
Monica attended Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Los Angeles, California and completed their four year Master of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine program with honors. She is a nationally certified Diplomate of Oriental Medicine by the National Certification Commission of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM) and is licensed to practice in the states of South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.
Prior to attending Yo San University Monica worked as a Clinical Research Associate at Duke Clinical Research Institute in Durham, NC. In that position she traveled the country to participating hospitals to ensure adherence to study protocol, Good Clinical Practices, ICH guidelines, and FDA regulations. In the future she hopes to use her clinical research experience to conduct clinical trials in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Monica has over 5 years of experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine and provides treatments for various conditions including but not limited to acute and chronic pain, insomnia, night sweats, common cold, hot flashes, anxiety, depression, vision disorders, digestive issues, and stress. She has a special interest in fibromyalgia and autoimmune disorders.
