What is Sciatica
The term sciatica describes symptoms of leg pain and possibly tingly, numbness or weakness that originates in the lower back and travels through the buttock and down the large sciatic nerve in the back of the leg (Hochschuler, 1999-2013).
Sciatic Nerve Pain
Sciatic nerve pain is often constant and is usually, as stated above, a burning or tingly pain on one side of the buttock or leg (rarely occurs in both legs). Sciatic pain is worse when you sit. Sciatic pain can also make it difficult to stand and walk. Because sciatic pain is due to an underlying medical condition, the pain can vary from infrequent and irritating to constant and incapacitating, depending on the condition causing it (Hochschuler, 1999-2013).
When and What to expect of Sciatic Pain
The probability of sciatica triggering before the age of twenty is very rare. Because sciatica simply develops over time, particular events do not cause sciatic pain. It is not until the middle ages of 50 that sciatic pains peak, then after it has peaked, it begins to decline (Hochschuler, 1999-2013).
How Long Does Sciatic Pain Last
Many who experience sciatic pain get better within a few weeks or months and can find relief through non surgical treatments, while others may require immediate attention (Hochschuler, 1999-2013).
